BUNAC's
Volunteer Peru programme places enthusiastic participants
in community-based projects on the outskirts of Lima in
Flores de Villa.
If you're
looking to experience life in South America, Peru is a great
place to start as it offers a colourful, vibrant way-of-life,
and borders many other countries that offer unlimited travelling
opportunities throughout your experience.
You'll
travel to Peru on a group flight and on arrival will spend
three days taking part in a worthwhile and enjoyable arrival
orientation. Once you have completed the orientation you'll
move on to your placement for either 2 or 3 months.
Placements
are developed according to your own experience, skills and
interests. You will work at the Flores de Villa community
based project located on the outskirts of Lima. In the past,
placements have included education, childcare, health centre-based
work and construction.
A basic
level of Spanish is required. You'll be living with a host
family for the duration of your placement, and therefore
will become involved in daily family life and enjoy local
food (provided by your host family).
Many
other international volunteers will also be based in Flores
de Villa and you'll have the opportunity to meet up and
spend your days off exploring Peru, taking in such places
as Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca and the Amazon basin, to
name but a few. Many participants also take time at the
end of their project to travel with the new friends that
they've made.
