Plateau
is approx 45 mins from the town of Eldoret in the rural
Kenyan countryside. When it rains it is a lovely patchwork
of greens, yellows and browns.
Teaching
English
is a high priority and your knowledge of the language will
be invaluable to help the children learn and speak using
the correct grammar. You will be able to help by * Becoming
an assistant teacher * Teaching classes on your own * Preparing
lesson plans * Teaching about the UK and different cultures
* Creating educational teaching aids such as maps, multiplication
tables etc * If you have a degree in a subject you may be
able to use your knowledge to help teach in that field.
No matter what subject you are interested in from Art &
Drama to Science you will be able to have fun and help the
kids to a better future.
Medical
& Health Care
You
will be able to really expand your med experience and use
your skills. Depending on your experience you will be able
to observe and assist the nurses & doctors in a wide range
of tasks.
You
could be observing and assisting with all types of patients
from inoculations to malaria cases, mother & baby care,
operations plus every day procedures such as equipment preparation,
record keeping, laboratory work, blood screening, pharmacy
etc. If you are already qualified then you will be able
to take a specific role within the hospital and share your
knowledge with the staff.
Building
If you
are interested in practical work and enjoy fixing things
and want to put your handy man skills to good use then the
hospital urgently needs you! Many things need repairing
and fixing and the hospital simply does not have the funds
or knowledge to carry out many of the tasks.
It
can be as simple as mending a shelf or painting but if you
want to get slightly technical the solar panel plumbing
leaks, they want to prepare a room to house the x ray machine,
the list is endless.
