HealthCare
In Kenya all consultations and treatments have to be paid
for, there is no NHS, this means that many Kenyans do not
seek medical care till the symptoms are either acute or
they are in severe pain.
Many
people especially in the rural areas around Eldoret are
still suspicious of modern medicine and seek advice form
traditional medicine men: this often results in an unhappy
ending especially with Malaria.
Due
to this you may well see extreme cases of illness and symptoms
that you would never gain experience of in the Western world.
Allowing you to gain valuable knowledge and experience of
third world medicine.
Lelboinet
is 60 mins from Eldoret in a remote rural location, the
clinic is the main one for the area and even receives patients
from the Kerio Valley an amazing 6000ft journey down the
escarpment. The nearest town is Flax a small town more reminiscent
of Wild West films with a single main street. It has an
excellent Market on Thurs, well worth going to buy local
fruit & veg and a cafe that is good for chips and small
snacks.
Depending
on your experience you will be able to observe and assist
the nurses in a range of tasks to do with all aspects of
the delivery of babies and aftercare.
* Hands on Experience
* Training Provided
* Develop your med knowledge
* Procedure Observation
* Maternity Care
This
project is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience
while helping deliver new life into this world.
