Shanthi
- Child Care & Community Work
Information
Shanthi
are an organisation that acts as a respite care centre for
children of parents who are having an extremely difficult
time, or whose parent(s) have died recently. Shanthi also
provide a meal a day with vitamin & mineral supplements
to as many children as our funding will allow.
These
children can be collected by their families at any time
and have full knowledge that, unlike an orphanage where
they might be asked to contribute, this service is free
of charge whilst the child is with Shanthi. Elathagiri is
a village near the small town of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu
on National Highway 7, about 90km from Bangalore.
Information
for Volunteers Volunteers are accepted at all times during
the year. It is preferable that you come for two months
or more, but there may be sometimes when we may be able
to accommodate you for a shorter period. Please apply at
least three months in advance if possible as we get booked
up very quickly at all times of the year!
You
should ideally be aged between 30 and 60 - (exceptions can
of course be made for people aged over 60 who are in great
health and very willing - our kids like to have grand-dads
and grandma's!) and should have had at least some experience
working with children.
Unlike
most Charitable Organisations on the Internet and beyond
- we do not charge astronomical fees for you to come and
volunteer with us. Please note you will have to fundraise
a certain amount of money which goes towards helping the
project.
