Street Children is composed almost entirely of volunteers.
We could not carry out our programs without their support.
Orientation meetings are held regularly to provide new volunteers
with information.
Volunteers
interested in working with the children must fill out an
application, provide references, and pledge to respect Triqui
culture, history, family values, and religion. Respect for
the children, their parents, their culture, their religions,
and the organization. Due to the often sensitive, cultural
differences, Volunteers MUST keep in mind, we require that
all volunteers dress in a culturally appropriate manner.
To realize that a volunteer position is not a paid position.
Role
as a volunteer
A. Shorter-Term
Volunteer Positions Spanish is always useful, but there
are certain tasks for which a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish
is sufficient. We are most in need of short-term volunteers
in the following areas: Medical skills: needed in our on-site
medical clinic, and to help with special health care projects,
such as the current campaign to test family members for
tuberculosis. Teaching: especially ESL, arts and crafts,
sewing, etc. Administrative/clerical: the nuts and bolts
running the organization.
B. Longer-term
Volunteer Positions Project building: performing research,
assessing potential new initiatives, and putting together
detailed project proposals. Fundraising and grant-writing
Community outreach: working with families to resolve problems
and access community resources.
