To help
the families of La Prusia build their houses at Casas de
La Esperanza
It
is hard work. There are no fees or special requirements,
although it would be better if volunteers have some knowledge
of masonry, plumbing, electricity, etc, and basic Spanish.
Teach
practical, technical subjects to men and women at the school-workshop:
masonry, plumbing, electricity, carpentry... etc. To
teach basic elements of computers, typewriting, computer
repair, machine sewing, and embroidering, etc. We
also need experts in development, cooperatives, micro-credits,
etc.
You
will be helping local people construct their own houses
in a neighbourhood of poverty and security.
"Who
would believe two months could fly past so quickly and what
a great way to pass an Irish winter. Everyone I met in Nicaragua
was so friendly, and Granada seemed to be so safe. I would
recommend this project to anyone, the work can be hard at
times but you can see the results immediately"
Desi McAuley, Ireland Stay in La Prusia: November 2006 -
February 2007

We are
three organizations of dedicated staff members working together
in Nicaragua, the United States and Spain to assist the
youth of Nicaragua.
We are
hundreds of volunteers who share their time, knowledge and
skills to help us meet our programmatic and fundraising
goals. We are thousands of individuals, organizations and
foundations that support our work with financial contributions,
in-kind gifts, and donations for our silent auctions.
But
most importantly, we are countless dreams of education,
health and community improvement come true for the children
and families that we serve.
Volunteers
are intrinsic to our work and to the culture of our organization.
Every year, we count on the help of hundreds of dedicated
individuals who help us meet our mission. There are a wide
variety of ways to help, either in Nicaragua or in the United
States.
* In
Nicaragua, our volunteers work primarily at our oratorios
(children centers) and get to work closely with the children
and families that we serve.
* In
the United States, volunteer efforts focus on helping Fabretto
with our Benefit Events, hosting House Parties, and administrative
support.

Volunteers
are the life of La Esperanza Granada. We greatly appreciate
the time given by those who are willing to help us in our
aims to improve the quality of life in the villages where
we work. There is no fee charged to volunteer with La Esperanza
Granada. You will have to pay your own cost of living and
your own transport. You are not required to do fundraising
or contribute financially to the organization in any way.
We ask
that you have at least an intermediate level of Spanish.
All of our work in the schools and the villages is conducted
in Spanish and in fact there is very little English spoken
in Nicaragua. We will often accept beginners in Spanish
providing that they intend to study while they are here
and are staying long-term. The minimum time of commitment
varies and there is no maximum limit. The average length
of stay is two to three months, while some volunteers stay
longer.
