ROKPA
- Teach English
Information
Rokpa
is a worldwide charity founded in 1980 by Dr. Akong Tulku
Rinpoche, a Tibetan doctor and teacher, with Lea Wyler and
her father Veit Wyler from Switzerland. The word Rokpa means
to help or to serve in Tibetan.
Rokpa
needs English teachers in the town of Jyeku (also known
as Yushu) in Qinghai Province, at Yushu Tibetan Medical
College and Primary School.
Yushu
is a Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture close to the provincial
borders of the Tibet Autonomous Region and Sichuan Province.
Jyeku is a small and growing town and administration centre,
12 - 24 hours by bus from Xining, where there is a small
airport. Xining is a 3 hour flight from Beijing and this
is by far the easiest and most direct route.
Latest
Opportunities
There
may be new TEFL placements for 2007 - all in Tibetan Autonomous
Prefectures of China.

Province
· Paid

Teachers
will be provided with room and board while teaching. However,
it is advisable to budget for extra food to supplement the

18 hours per week, teaching classes ranging in size from
25 to over 50 pupils aged from 5 to 20. This will include
some adult classes and the possibility of teaching English

general running of different Rokpa projects in the area.
Such expenses will be reimbursed.
All
volunteers will: · have completed a course to Teach English
as a Foreign Language and have had some experience
· be prepared to teach at the project for at least six months,
usually from March
· pay their own travel expenses to and from the project.
· preferably have had some experience of living in a third

The
selection of volunteers rests ultimately with Dr. Akong
Tulku Rinpoche, Rokpa's Founding President and main fieldworker
in Tibet. If it is impossible to meet him he will take advice
from one of Rokpa's representatives with whom we can arrange
an interview.
