For Hurrican Victims We Need Your Help - One Week or More
- Come Help Rebuild New Orleans!
Since
PNOLA's inception, hundreds of people from around the country
have travelled to New Orleans to assist our organization
as volunteers. The work is often difficult, dirty, wet and
hot, but ultimately, volunteers come away from the experience
with an intense sense of accomplishment. Whether you volunteer
for one day, a week or become an Americorps sponsored 10-month
appointee, PNOLA needs skills at all levels.
While
most of our volunteers work on crews gutting and rebuilding
homes, we also seek people with specialized/ professional
experience to offer; technology expertise, financial services,
legal services and fundraising acumen, to name a few. What
follows is intended to be a primer on the PNOLA experience,
and of course prospective volunteers are always welcome
to call us for more detailed information.
The
Phoenix of New Orleans (PNOLA) is the neighborhood association
for Tulane/Gravier and organizing weekly volunteer teams
to - help gut and rebuild homes, - produce and interact
in outreach events to educate residents as well as help
them connect to resources/recovery services, - help our
long-term managers with important research and development
projects such as "Welfare to Work" and juvenile mentoring
programs.
Role
as Volunteer
Construction
skills are always a bonus but not required - gutting requires
determined volunteers. All of our housing is close within
our neighborhood and we will subsidize lunches during work
days. We have the equipment and training to take care of
most health/accident situations.
