What
are the details of the job guarantee?
The
INTERNATIONAL TEFL PROGRAM certificate course is designed
to meet the needs of teachers considering TEFL employment
either in Prague or around the world. Many trainees chose
to work with the Caledonian School after the course.
The
Caledonian School’s job guarantee is based on the grade
system for the course. The
school awards the following passing grades: PASS 1, PASS
2, and PASS 3, with PASS 3 being the lowest passing grade.
The
job guarantee is:
* Trainees who earn the grades PASS 1 or PASS 2 are guaranteed
a full-time position with Caledonian School in Prague.
* Trainees who earn the grade PASS 3 and trainees who
do not pass the course have no job guarantee.
For
your information, full-time teachers are contracted for
20-26 lessons a week. Part-time teachers are contracted
for a minimum of four lessons a week (one lesson = 45
minutes of classroom instruction).
Part-time
teachers should expect lessons in the Caledonian School`s
Conversation Club program and should also expect to be
called on as substitute teachers. Part-time teachers who
perform well should expect to see their number of lessons
increase gradually.
Part-time
teachers will also be provided with an updated list of
language schools in Prague and be given assistance setting
up job interviews. They also have full use of the Caledonian
School teachers` room and its computers and printers.
Further, they can make free local phone calls from the
teachers' room and participate in teacher development
workshops and social events.

as a Foreign Language TEFL Training The demand for English
as a second language (ESL) has been rising worldwide,
especially in Eastern Europe. The number of teachers currently
available is insufficient to fill all vacancies.
TEFL
courses aim to give people with little or no teaching
experience adequate knowledge and skills to begin a career
in the field of English language teaching. Teaching positions
are available in private schools, state schools, universities,
and businesses.
Current
job conditions in the Czech Republic
Full-time
instructors usually teach 20-25 lessons per week (1 lesson
= 45 minutes). The monthly gross earnings package for
a qualified teacher is approximately 18,000-20,000 Czech
crowns based on 25-lesson workweek. The average wage in
the Czech Republic is approxmately 15,200 Czech crowns.
Starting
Caledonian teachers with 20 guaranteed lessons a week
can expect to earn (gross) about 16,000 Czech crowns.
They also get a 100% reimbursment for their Prague local
transport pass. This salary package enables you to have
a modest Czech-type lifestyle and is a living wage but
not a saving wage. Teachers working for the Caledonian
School at an out-of-Prague location in the Czech Republic
have free housing which means they are able to save a
portion of their salary.
Teaching
contracts are flexible usually on year-round or half-year
bases. Medical insurance is usually provided by the employer
with a small employee contribution. TEFL courses offer
a great opportunity for people who want to study and work
abroad. It gives teachers a chance to travel, live in
a different culture, meet new people and learn a new language.
