Teaching
English abroad allows you to live and work in a foreign
country where you can really experience the country as
an insider, not a tourist.
There
is a huge demand for teachers around the world with opportunities
in almost every country. People
all over the world want to learn English, from Eastern
Europe to South America and many countries need English
language teachers and native English speakers.
Being
able to speak English means they are more employable,
can understand more Western media and it opens up new
windows in their lives. As a teacher you will have an
eager audience of all ages.
You
do not need to be a qualified teacher, but sometimes it
does help if you have taken a course in teaching English
as a foreign or second language. There are several courses
available, such as the popular TEFL
and TESOL courses. They can be studied in part time
over a few weeks, or if full time over a shorter time.
You
do not necessarily need to do a course though, sometimes
you can just turn up at a foreign school and start teaching,
if you have a degree it can help your employment.
Taking
a TEFL / TESOL certificate
course provides the opportunity to teach English overseas,
travel and work around the world, to gain knowledge and
experience of foreign cultures and languages and to embark
upon a career in teaching.
